A few weeks ago, Hubspot’s VP of Inbound Marketing, Mike Volpe, sent a tweet: “Company news: How to Win a Free Ticket to SES San Jose – Are you itching to go to SES San Jose”. I clicked on the link and read the post. It was pretty simple: Create and submit a marketing article to InboundMarketing.com. The author of the article with the most votes won a ticket to the conference.
So, I submitted a video blog post that I made about inbound marketing. About a week later, I received an email from HubSpot notifying me that I had won the ticket. After some last minute travel arrangements, I was on my way to San Jose for Search Engine Strategies.
The conference was excellent. It was a great learning experience and I finally got to meet a few of the people that I’ve been following for the past few years. Here’s a quick list of my favorite presentations, in no particular order.
Avinash Kaushik, Web Analytics
After spending countless hours with his book “Web Analytics An Hour A Day”, I was able to see Avinash Kaushik give a presentation. He’s an excellent presentor and a thought leader in web analytics. If you have the opportunity to see one of his presentations, don’t miss it.
Tim Ash: Landing Page Testing and Optimization
Tim Ash is a great speaker and if you haven’t read his book, “Landing Page Optimization“, read it. He also gave away cash for correct answers.
Mike Volpe: Social Media: Managing Conversations
Excellent presentation on a panel discussion about managing social media conversations. He always gives a good presentation. Most of his presentations on inbound marketing can be found on slide share.
Dave Snyder: Social Media White Hat/Black Hat
The self proclaimed “Most Dangerous Man on The Internet.” He’s a funny guy. Best quotes from the panel: “Some things are not just black hat or white hat, they are just dumb” and “let’s not give a backhand slap to good blackhats.”
Michael Gray: SEO Tools of the Trade
Follow him on twitter and read his blog…he knows what he’s talking about.
There were a lot of great presentations. I’ll definitely plan on attending the conference in New York next year. Thanks to HubSpot for the opportunity.
If you were at Search Engine Strategies San Jose, what were some of your favorite presentations?
